A1Planting Description Design Assistance. We compose a design and planting schedule to fit your property & budget. We find options to satisfy both structural and aesthetic goals. With your feedback, we design until we have a solution (exact quote, w/Discounts). Purchase plants from local growers. Attractive, functional, low maintenance plants that deliver year after year. We want to shelter and show-off your property, without ever looking "overgrown". Pick up and deliver. Plants ride securely, usually straight from source to you. Distribute plants by cart. Human-powered units with surf tires. Easy on the lawn. Easy on the hardscape. Dig hole carefully. We use augers, picks, & shovels to sculpt out a proper hole; sized to promote strength and rooting. Illustration below. Establish a tree ring. Most diggings tamped down around hole, creating the base layer of tree ring. Prepare roots. Just before setting plant in hole, loosen up any tightly bound roots. Spread them out. Cut any really long roots, to prevent girdling. Set top of plant slightly above grade. Steer drowning rainfalls around plant. Reduce wet-rot issues in root system. Storm-resistant method. Portions of earth surrounding top-heavy plants may remain undisturbed to clamp the rootball firmly. The entire tree is stronger when the base is secure. Add lots of landscaper soil. Pack soil mix up to earth level, checking for vertical constantly. Minimize air-pockets by forcing soil into gaps (photo at left).
Product expands up to 200 times it's weight during watering, then slowly releases the water back into the soil. Lasts up to 5 years and breaks down into a fertilizer, not a salt. Add Agri-Tab fertilizer. Slow-release plant tabs last about 2 years as they are broken down by bacteria. Fertilization not needed for 2 years. Please do not add more as there is risk of burning and overgrowth. Add MORE soil to complete tree ring. Elevated soil structure retains mulch, enriches rootzone, protects against flooding, and allows for settling. Use minimal soil on top of current roots, but cover the edges well. Roots require air. Soil can kill by choking. Pack a bit of soil around base of plant stem (to keep mulch away). Spread quality wood mulch on plants. Mulch keeps your plants warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and well-moistened. 3 to 5" over top and edges of rootball. 2 to 3" over rest of planting. Avoid piling mulch up against the stem. Mulch can be an avenue for mold/rot & bugs. |

Tree Staking
$30 minimum, to $75 per largest plant. Our plantings only, before or after need. We rarely stake any plant. Our Method mitigates the need, so we discourage this practice. Only the strongest acts of God tend to bring harm. Yes, people do still stake a lot of plants (often out of habit). This practice will prevent tipping from most high-wind events. But even with staking, hurricane-like weather can take out any plant. Staking comes at a price to tree. It is preferable in the long run for a tree to sway in the breeze. This constant "flexing" allows the trunk to develop stronger, like a muscle, so the tree can withstand future high winds, ice and snow. Unstaked trees develop greater caliper, a larger root system, and healthier, undamaged trunks. Occasionally, we may advise staking. Tall plants with small rootballs may need help.
